Version 0.1 · Foundation stage

The Human-Centred Quality Initiative

An open programme developing the body of knowledge, capability models, professional pathways and practical methods needed to redefine software quality for an AI-accelerated world.

Mission

To redefine software quality as a human-centred, evidence-driven discipline that enables better organisational decisions, while providing practitioners with the capability models, professional pathways and practical methods needed to thrive in an AI-accelerated world.

Why this exists

Test execution, defect detection and pass/fail reporting are visible and necessary, but they are only the tip of the quality discipline.

Testing generates evidence. Quality turns that evidence into understanding, decisions, operational improvement and learning for the next development cycle.
Beyond execution

Evidence, not activity

Defects, observations, telemetry, risks and outcomes matter because of what they help an organisation understand and decide.

Beyond release

Operational learning

Quality evidence should continue into live service, revealing how journeys perform and where operational excellence can improve.

Beyond today

The next cycle

What is learned through delivery and operation should shape priorities, designs, capabilities and investment in the next development cycle.

One initiative, three connected layers

The work is deliberately broader than a testing framework and is designed to complement, not replace, recognised standards and bodies of knowledge.

01 · Philosophy

Human-Centred Quality

The purpose, principles and language needed to explain why software quality is an organisational decision-making discipline.

02 · Capability

Models and pathways

Organisational maturity, role-specific competencies, observable behaviours and connections to established frameworks.

03 · Practice

Implementation

Methods, patterns, user journeys and practical guidance developed with UserJourneyExplorer as the implementation companion.

Current workstreams

The Foundation release establishes the programme publicly. The detailed content will be developed and versioned rather than presented prematurely as finished doctrine.

Established

Rehumanising Quality

The founding argument: QA evolves from execution towards orchestration, stewardship and journey integrity.

Evolving

Roadmap

This is a programme of progressive releases. Each stage will preserve what came before while making the body of knowledge more complete and practically useful.

Foundation

Mission, manifesto, founding publication, research questions and public initiative home.

Capability

Initial maturity model, capability areas and role-specific professional pathways.

Connection

Standards mapping, evidence model, practical patterns and community review.

Body of Knowledge

A coherent, versioned reference joining philosophy, capability and implementation.

Questions guiding the work

What is software quality fundamentally for?

How does quality enable better decisions rather than merely report test outcomes?

What remains fundamentally human?

Which responsibilities continue to depend on judgement, context, ethics, empathy and accountability?

How should professional roles evolve?

What should different quality professions retain, develop and amplify with AI?

How does evidence create learning?

How should delivery and operational evidence inform continuous improvement and future development?

Explore active research

From body of knowledge to practical application

VerityJX develops the Initiative. This is where the mission, capability model, professional pathways, publications and research agenda live.

User Journey Explorer is the implementation companion. It will show how the principles are applied through journeys, evidence, governance, continuous improvement and practical methods.

Visit User Journey Explorer

A corresponding statement should now be added prominently to the User Journey Explorer homepage so visitors understand the relationship in both directions.

This work will evolve openly.

Challenge the assumptions, contribute examples, identify gaps or help shape how human-centred quality should develop.
