An evolving body of work

Reimagining quality for an AI-accelerated world.

Artificial Intelligence is transforming software delivery. The deeper question is not simply what AI can do, but what remains uniquely human when AI increasingly participates in building, testing and assuring software.

A new chapter for VerityJX

Introducing the Human-Centred Quality Initiative.

Following the publication of Rehumanising Quality and the discussions after its presentation at the BCS SIGiST Summer Conference 2026, it became clear that Human-Centred Testing is not simply another testing approach. It points towards a broader professional discipline.

Our mission: To redefine software quality as a human-centred, evidence-driven discipline that enables better organisational decisions, while providing practitioners with the capability models, professional pathways and practical methods needed to thrive in an AI-accelerated world.

The question we are exploring

For much of my career, the future of quality appeared to be shaped by better engineering practices, better tooling and better automation. Those things still matter. But AI forces a deeper question about judgement, context, trust and shared understanding.

Quality is not a property of software. Quality is a property of journeys.

Users do not experience our organisations as components. They experience them as journeys: across channels, systems, teams, decisions and time. VerityJX is concerned with how those journeys remain coherent, trustworthy and meaningful as delivery accelerates.
People

Shared understanding

Quality depends on how well teams understand user intent, business impact, operational reality and the human context around the journey.

Practices

Journey integrity

User journeys become the central artefact that connects requirements, build, testing, production behaviour and real-world outcomes.

Technology

AI as enabler

AI can amplify what humans achieve at great length, but it must be shaped by good quality practice, context and judgement.

The foundation already laid

In 2026 I had the privilege of presenting Rehumanising Quality: The QA Role as Orchestrator in AI-Accelerated Testing at the BCS SIGiST Summer Conference.

Presentation

Rehumanising Quality

The talk explored how QA can evolve from test execution towards orchestration of human-centred quality across user journeys.

One of the most encouraging outcomes of the conference was not the presentation itself, but the conversations that followed. Professionals from healthcare, quality engineering, publishing and AI each recognised aspects of the same challenge: how do we preserve human understanding as AI increasingly participates in delivery?

VerityJX and User Journey Explorer

VerityJX is the home of the Initiative and its evolving body of knowledge. It develops the philosophy, capability model, professional pathways and research agenda.

User Journey Explorer is the practical implementation companion. It explores how these principles can be applied through user journeys, evidence, governance, continuous improvement and supporting methods.

Visit User Journey Explorer

Theory and practice remain distinct but connected: VerityJX develops the body of knowledge; User Journey Explorer demonstrates its practical application.

Shared responsibility requires shared understanding.

If these ideas resonate with your own experience of quality, AI, healthcare, testing or organisational change, I would genuinely welcome the conversation.
